One of the biggest things I have heard of people doing is doing the same workout that others do. If you are naturally plump, you cannot do the same workout as your naturally Anushka Sharma-ish bodied friend. It isn’t going to work. And then you’ll be miserable about why she is thin and you are not even though she eats like crazy.
Believe me, I understand when you say that you hate skinny girls. I hate them too. I would KILL to be an ectomorph.
Don’t know what an ectomorph is? Well, I’ll tell you.
There are three main body types. Not body shapes, body types. Ectomorph, Mesomorph and Endomorph.
Instead of showing bodyshapes and drawings I’ll give you a simple shape. The basic shape of an Ectomorph is a long thin rectangle/Ruler. You know those Asian girls you hate for being naturally skinny? Yeah, they are probably ectomorphs.
Anushka Sharma would be a good example of an ectomorph. So would Johnny Depp.
These people don’t put on weight easily, Not through eating and not through working out. Do you remember the ever popular Jughead of Archie Comics? That’s them. They usually look leaner and taller than they actually are. They have lanky arms and a very thin and frail frame. Women will hardly have any curves and mostly be relatively flat chested.
From Wikipedia “Ectomorphic: characterized by long and thin muscles/limbs and low fat storage; usually referred to as slim. Ectomorphs are not predisposed to store fat or build muscle. “
This is the balanced body type. They tend to gain weight easily but also lose it easily. Remember Johnny Bravo? He’s a rather distorted idea of a Mesomorph. I cannot think of a shape for them, but you get the picture i hope.
A famous Mesomorph would be Biapsha basu and Salman Khan. They are fit, able to do physical workouts without getting tired easily and have tolerant bodies. And even if they stop working out they will not look unfit. Women will have defined curves even if they stop working out.
I’m not saying that all Mesomorphs and muscular. I’m saying that they will easily gain muscle.
From wikipedia “Mesomorphic: characterized by medium bones, solid torso, low fat levels, wide shoulders with a narrow waist; usually referred to as muscular. Mesomorphs are predisposed to build muscle but not store fat. “
Big Mama’s house is one of my favourite films. And big mama is an excellent example of an Endomorph. That is not to say that all Endomorphs are fat and flabby. But they do have soft bodies that do not shed fat easily. Imagine a big circle or oval. That’s them.
They mainly put on weight in the middle and find it hard to shed. They tend to have small hands and feet. They look like they have short, squat limbs and find it hard to develop muscle.
From Wikipedia: “Endomorphic: characterized by increased fat storage, a wide waist and a large bone structure, usually referred to as fat. Endomorphs are predisposed to storing fat.”
Now for the workouts and diets:
Ectomorphic workout and diet:
Since these types naturally do not put on weight they can do the workouts that other body types should steer clear of. Including a LOT of weight training. Do physical weights and focus on shaping and defining your body. And thank your stars and run away before I force feed you fat.
Diet: You can eat whatever the hell you want so get lost. Hmm, try increasing your protein intake so that you can define yourself better. Apart from that, I am sorry, I have no information to give you except a dirty look.
Mesomorphic workout and diet:
This body type will do well with a mix of cardio and VERY LIGHT weight training. Plyometrics is something that would be very easy to do for this type. But beware of gaining mass; if you don’t want to gain mass stick to light weights and body weight workouts with more reps. Make sure that you workout every body part since you tend to put on weight and lose weight evenly all over. I would say even yoga would work easily since you do tend to burn fat very easily.
Diet: Don’t cut on your carbs, just make sure you eat complex carbs instead of simple ones. Increase your protein intake but try to reduce your fat intake to just good fats. Don’t eat the donut but eat that salad with the olive oil dressing, get it?
Endomorphic workout and diet:
I feel sorry for these body types since they are at a disadvantage. But it isn’t that difficult to lose weight guys. Fret not. Just increase your cardio and sprinkle weight training evenly throughout your workouts. Start small and work it up to larger. Swimming would definitely help you out. Don’t forget to try and increase your muscle in your abs and thighs so as to increase metabolism. Kick boxing, martial arts and other types of full body workouts will be awesome to take up when your fitness level is higher.
Diet: This is hard because your are one of those body types that is going to have to do a lot of sacrificing. Don’t eat anything very fattening, so that means lean meat, low carbs, high fibre foods, lots of vegetables and fruits and oatmeal is what will make you slim down.
All in all remember guys, if you have a craving for a particular food, eat it. Don’t starve yourself as that would probably only make you snap and fall totally out of the diet later on. It’s easier to burn one donut than to burn one month’s worth if you suddenly get depressed.
Hope this was helpful.
P.S. I am a mesomorph.
