Review: The Body Shop Shea Shower cream

“When summer times comes, it’s itch itch itch

coz humidity in India, is such a f***ing b***h.” – Me

I have serious skin issues when it comes to humidity, as in, i keep like learning black magic just to drain out the sea and make it a dry heat climate. But what can you do when you job requires you to be here and you have no choice but to work through the humidity….

Now here’s my issue, I have a mild case of folliculitis which you would all know about by now, if not then shame on you for not reading my blog often Smile with tongue out

But anyway, the problem here is that there are very few moisturisers that work for my skin and in summer, while I have dry skin, even if i moisturise with the mildest and lightest of moisturisers it still makes my skin itchy, sweaty and bumpy. Especially after I depilate my skin. So I was looking for a good body wash that would not require me to moisturise afterwards by drying my skin out too much. And my doctor recommended that I buy the body shop shea butter body wash (i gave him the option of body wash, you must also be informed that my doctor is my best friend and shopping buddy)

SO here it is, the beautiful shower cream. Now I’ve been hoping to write a review of this ever since i bought it. I even got reminded of it each time I had a bath but put it down to lazy me, a dirty wet shower cream bottle etc etc, but when i got this new one i decided to snap a pic right away and write a review for you. What the company claims:

Shea butter from Ghana, is one of nature’s great moisturizers. Ghanaian women have used it for centuries to protect their skin from the dry Saharan winds. So who better to buy ours from than the Tungteiya Shea Butter Association, Northern Ghana. An association of around 400 women from 10 villages, we ensure a fair price for their product. Since trading with The Body Shop the women have been able to dramatically change their lives with water pipes and wells saving hours of water collecting, better housing, medical care, food, and self esteem. Importantly, they are also able to give their children, particularly their daughters, the chance to go to school. Beeswax from the remote tropical forests of North West Zambia, where the extra income helps more than 3,000 beekeepers preserve their traditional way of life.

Price 340/250ml details can be seen here

Ingredients from the international site : Water, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-5 Cocamide, Coco-Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Fragrance, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Linalool, Tocopherol, Coumarin, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Limonene, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citronellol, Citral, Geraniol, Eugenol, Caramel, Yellow 6.

What sucks is that the Indian site doesn’t have the ingredients listed. Something the Indian govt should be ashamed of…. as should body shop India.

PROS:

  • It is very very mild
  • The scent isn’t strong, it is very pleasant. Won;t irritate sensitive noses (which i have)
  • It really does clean the skin even though it feels like it’s doing nothing
  • skin doesn’t require moisturising afterwards.
  • it stopped my itching and the bumps. I think I have an HG product here.
  • it evened out my skin tone, I’m not sure if this is because of the moisturising or just because of it preventing issues but my skin is awesome now.

CONS:

  • Doesn’t lather much.
  • I wouldn’t say it is expensive but it certainly isn’t cheap.
  • Not available everywhere and can’t be purchased online(as far as i know)
  • It has sodium hydroxide (I JUST GOT ALERTED TO THE FACT) DON’T KNOW HOW I MISSED IT.

This is an amazing product and the lathering is something that is just a psychological thing for me. But if you rub it in your palms before washing with it it works great, doesn’t work well with a shower scrunchie.

That’s all I have to say about this. I don’t know if you can see how much I love this product. Would I repurchase? Hell yeah, if there’s a sale I’m stocking up, otherwise I’ll still keep buying. it;s totally amazing, perfect for people with sensitive skin and perfect for people who don’t want to moisturise like me.

UPDATE: I’ve only recently realized that this has sodium hydroxide. I probably won’t purchase this anymore and will check it the anything else similar is available without the sodium hydroxide. But I’ve mailed a few people, knowledgeable in this topic to see if it is ok to use a product with sodium hydroxide if it is going to be in a bodywash (since dermatoligist recommended products like cetaphil and sebamed have sodium hydroxide in them) and if they say it’s fine I’ll probably keep using it. I’ll post an update when i get the necessary info.

Products I love

A list of products that I absolutely love.

1. Maybelline Colossal kajal

Hands down the best kajal I have ever used except for Bourjois. A must have if you live in India and have issues with humidity and your Kajal melting off. Also be sure to remove it with a oil based remover like baby oil or even Maybelline’s own eye and lip makeup remover would suffice.

2. The Body Shop Almond hand and Nail cream

I’ve already reviewed this before and put it on a list but can’t help adding it here since it is a fave. I’ve also picked up the new packaging that my mum is using now. Mine is almost over.

It softens the cuticles and the hands. makes it look like it’s been well taken care of even if you haven’t been doing so.

3. Banana Boat Ultra Defence Spray Sunblock SPF 50

It’s a spray. makes your skin glow and applies really easily. SMELLS LIKE HEAVEN. But it’s only meant to use for the body. It’s almost over now and it isn’t available in India. I’ll have to wait for someone to go/come from Dubai or the US to get it for me but when I do, I’m hoarding up on this,

4. Philips Salon Shine care hairdryer

Nothing to say, it’s easy, have a heat control and a speed control and works like a charm. One of my favourites.
